SUMMARY:Pic-A-Vent: California Cannabis Seminar
DESCRIPTION:If you have questions about the new Cannabis industry\, come to a two-hour workshop hosted by Mel Boynton and Joe Marino. Many of your questions will be answered: What is the difference between medical marijuana and recreational pot? Is it legal? (State versus Federal laws will be addressed by Claremont Police Department). What do I need to do to get my medical marijuana license? Where can I get medical marijuana? Where can we buy recreational marijuana? What are the products? (CBD\, vaping\, flower (buds)\, edible\, drinks\, cookies\, massage oil\, and more). What is it good for\, other than getting high and watching cartoons? Insomnia? Chronic pain? Epilepsy? Arthritis? ED? Bed sores? Cancer Treatments? Bald Spots? What are the different types of pot flowers? (Sativa\, Indica\, and hybrid). Which one is right for me? What happens if I take too much? Can I drive while high? Can I smoke in public? Can I buy it and give it to someone else? Can we take our pot on the plane? Do people still call it Mary Jane? We will also have some of Denise Spooner’s famous cookies (sorry\, no pot included) and drinks.

SUMMARY:Monday Night Book Group
DESCRIPTION:Learning to Walk in the Dark  by Barbara Brown Taylor \nFrom the New York Times bestselling author Barbara Brown Taylor’s Learning to Walk in the Dark provides a way to find spirituality in those times when we don’t have all the answers…[she] asks us to put aside our fears and anxieties and to explore all that God has to teach us “in the dark.” She argues that we need to move away from our “solar spirituality” and ease our way into appreciating “lunar spirituality” (since\, like the moon\, our experience of the light waxes and wanes). Through darkness we find courage\, we understand the world in new ways\, and we feel God’s presence around us\, guiding us through things seen and unseen. \n  \nMondays\, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. \nJanuary 28\, February 4\, 11\, 18\, 25\, March 4 \nThe Library in the Guildhall \nThe book is available from Amazon for $12.74 paperback and $7.99 Kindle. \nIf you would like assistance in procuring a book\, please let me know.  Peggy Perry: peggyperry24@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Faith on the Move: Stories of Migration in Faith Traditions
DESCRIPTION:“Faith on the Move: Stories of Migration in Faith Traditions”\, Rev. Dr. David Vasquez-Levy\, President of Pacific School of Religion \nMigration is at the core of many of our sacred stories. Abraham and Sarah venture out with nothing but a promise; Jesus begins his life as a refugee hiding from Herod; the Hajj re-enacts the Prophet Muhammad’s journey to Mecca; and the path to enlightenment for Prince Siddharta begins with a journey of discovery throughout his kingdom.  Part of the sustaining power of these religious narratives is drawn from the fact that they speak profoundly to our own stories of change—migrations across national or physical boundaries or beyond personal boundaries of belief and experience. Can these sacred scriptures provide a more life giving way to guide our conversation about immigration and our engagement with a world on the move? \nJoin Rev. Dr. David Vasquez-Levy for a special lecture on Sunday\, February 24 at 5:00 pm in the Louise Roberts Room. \n  \nBiography:  Rev. Dr. David Vásquez-Levy serves as President of Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley\, California –a progressive\, multidenominational seminary and center for social justice that prepares theologically and spiritually rooted leaders to work for the well-being of all.  A committed pastor\, a nationally recognized immigration leader\, and a sought after speaker\, Vásquez-Levy leads at the intersection of faith\, higher education\, and social change. Vásquez-Levy regularly contributes a faith perspective to the national conversation on immigration\, including speaking at a congressional briefing and participating in two immigration consultations at the White House.  He is currently engaged in a series of public conversation with various State Attorneys across the country in an effort to reframe our national conversation about immigration. \nHe has worked on consulted on a number of documentaries on immigration\, labor\, and human rights and is the author of various publications that explore migration stories in sacred texts and in people’s lives. He has lived in four countries\, including working on refugee resettlement in Canada\, and taught courses and led international study and service trips across the globe. Vásquez-Levy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Texas Lutheran University and a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago\, including studies at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich\, Germany.
